A few weeks back I took my (much younger) siblings to watch "IF". Maybe it’s just me, but I felt it’s been a while since there has been a good movie out for the kids. - I'm assuming it has to do with the ongoing writers strikes. Yes, its not great for us, but good on them. In all honesty, its not as if there isn't enough money to go around. Sure we love our leading actors and actresses but they wouldn't really be where they are if the scripts and behind the scenes wasn't in working order.
‘IF’ is an adventure of a young girl who finds herself able to see everyones imaginary friends and sets outs to reconnect them with their kids.
Be warned, the beginning is extremely slow, and it lasted a good 20 minutes. I really thought I’d made a mistake bringing the kids because if you’ve ever been in the presence of kids, you’ll know that 20 minutes really is a long time for a child. My six year old sister became very restless and to make matters worse, I really wished their had been a warning that the story covered the topic of death and grief of losing a parent. Which in my siblings’ case really made me feel so bad. My anxiety kicked in full swing and I kept watching them like a hawk, wondering if I had triggered memories for them considering they lost their mother only a year ago. Luckily it was brushed over rather quickly and they were soon engulfed in the world of colourful and animated imaginary friends.
I thought the movie was very nostalgic for me. It had me thinking how sad it is that, as we grow up we loose so much of our imagination. World experiences really do paint our life that bit bleak. The movie triggered so many memories of my childhood. When I was a child I use to think that puppets were behind the tv and I would jump out to see if I could catch them! I also remembered playing with my imaginary princess friends when I got my new tea set. It was a time in my life where I felt nothing was impossible, where sadness really didn’t exist, unless obviously if your parents didn’t give you the chocolate you wanted. I feel disheartened to say, I really don’t think my younger self would be proud of adult me. So I definitely felt inspired to do more that would make the little girl in me fly amongst the clouds.
I would totally recommend you to look back into your childhood and grab ahold of the child in you that you’ve lost. - I truly think its a great from of self development.
I don't believe ‘IF’ did very good in the box office but the kids absolutely loved it! When I say loved, I really do mean loved! - My nine year old brother wanted to watch it again. Unfortunately, I do think its been overshadowed by ‘Inside out 2’- It’s so funny because I took my other set of siblings to watch the first movie when it came out, it was wicked. I should aim to take them all to watch the second movie.
