Kuro Bagels - New York Style Bagel with chive flavoured cream cheese

Between my crazy, jam-packed schedule (because yes, I’m fully committed to being a full-time blogger), I managed to sneak in a visit to Kuro in Notting Hill London. I had to check out the new bagels that have been getting all the hype since they launched last month. Now, I first stumbled upon Kuro Bakery two years ago via Jen’s TikTok (yes, I know its appalling that it took me two years to finally make my waythere! 😅 My to-visit list is absolutely out of control). But I can confirm: my first visit did not disappoint.

Inspired by his travels around Asia, particularly Japan and Korea, Kuro’s founder Julien wanted to bring the minimalist coffee shopaesthetic he found abroad to Notting Hill. The name “Kuro” comes from the Japanese word for "black," which inspired the launch of Kuro Coffee.

Kuro has three locations all in the same block: Kuro Coffee, Kuro Bakery, and now Kuro Bagels. It’s safe to say Kuro has totally taken over Notting Hill—so much so that the queues are insane. I popped in just before lunchtime and still had to wait 35 minutes just to get my hands on some bagels… in the rain! But trust me, it was 100% worth the wait, so no complaints here even though it ruined my curls. But lesson for me to always carry an umbrella in London. 😭

Here’s what I tried:

  • The Everything Bagel with Chive Cream Cheese 🥯

  • Vanilla Sákuro 🥐 + 🍩

  • Pistachio Sákuro 🥐 + 🍩

Let’s talk about the bagel first. This was probably one of the best bagels I’ve ever had. The everything bagel was truly unique in taste—salty, onion-y, and seedy. It was a perfect blend of flavours, made even better by the creamy, in house made tangy chive cream cheese. It's basically a New York style bagel but in London! Honestly, I intended to share it with my brother, but..., I ate the whole thing. 😂 SorryNotSorry. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, right? Unless, of course, he reads this. Yikes!

Now, onto the Cronut which is known as the Sákuro. The vanilla one was my absolute favourite although I only got two bites and while I tried the pistachio flavour (becasue content creating is much harder than it looks) my mum unapologetically finished it all. 😂 It had the perfect combination of croissant and donut vibes. I’m not exactly sure what the filling was—cream or custard, maybe?—but whatever it was, it was thick, rich, and creamy. It was definitely a sugar overload, but soworth the calories! 😋

Now don’t come at me but I’m actually not a pistachio fan 🤪 but even the pistachio Sákuro was good although the flavour of Pistachio for fans like my mum was not as strong in flavour as it could have been but I liked it none the less.

If you find yourself wandering around Notting Hill, Kuro is definitely a must-visit.

My TikTok video of Kuro will come soon. I just haven’t had the time to put it all together yet but I will say my cronut pull isn’t anywhere near as good as Jen’s. I should probably go back and get some lessons from her. 😂

Ps: Literally most (if not all) of my chocolate and bakery content comes from Jen, so if you don't want to wait two years to get my take on it then I suggest checking her substack. She has the BEST recommendations and she's the first to know about the newest food places in the city.

Happy eating! 😋
