Halal Collagen, Mushroom Coffee & Korean Ginseng - LYL Nutrition

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but did you know we peak at 25?! Yes, I know... cry with me. It’s all downhill from there! Okay, maybe I’m being a little dramatic—but the decline is real, even if it’s gradual.

In recent years, collagen has become the buzzword, but here’s what most people don’t know: nearly all the trendy collagen products contain only Type 1 and Type 3. I didn’t even realise there were 28 types of collagen. Most don’t include Type 2 — which means those overpriced (and very underwhelming) tablets I bought a few years back from a very well-known pharmaceutical company? Yep... totally useless.

Fast forward to about a year ago—my mum got a tub of Halal collagenfrom LYL Nutrition, which I promptly borrowed (okay, stole—don’t judge, sharing is caring 😂). She didn’t say anything, so I just kept 'borrowing.' But, true to form, I wasn’t consistent. Let’s blame the ADHD, shall we?

When the new year hit, I decided to get serious: magnesium, vitamin D, and collagen became my ride-or-dies. Side note—magnesium is incredible for ADHD!

Now in full transparency: I take these six days a week. For some reason, there’s always one random day where I pass out early and forget. But hey, six is better than whenever-I-remember. Maybe next year I’ll aim for a solid seven! Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned: consistency is key, you won’t see results without it. - This applies to all supplements.

Let’s Talk Collagen Results

Five months into taking LYL’s collagen consistently, and the results are wild. My hair is growing ridiculously fast—I now need haircuts every 2.5 months instead of the usual 3.5. My nails? Growing insanely fast. And recently, I noticed some of my long-term stretch marks have actually started to fade. Like... hello?! It’s genuinely giving magic potion vibes. - Although I will say the stretch marks faded after I accidentally took twice the dose recommended on holiday because I used the wrong scoop - But hey I'm not complaining!

P.S. — If you’re thinking of trying it, check out the LYL Nutrition TikTok Shop. The founder, Ridhwana, does regular lives with some fab deals. Don’t sleep on it!

Why Supporting Small Businesses Matters

Speaking of Ridhwana, she’s a total powerhouse. She calls herself a “one-woman band,” and if you’ve followed me for a while, you know how passionate I am about backing small businesses. You can read my previous posts here & here. In a world drowning in corporate greed, let’s make space for the independent entrepreneurs like Ridhwana to thrive.

It’s honestly been so inspiring watching her business grow. She recently launched D3 supplements (which I’m snapping up once mine run out), and she’s also dropping black seed oil capsules soon—another staple in my weekly routine. Super excited for that release!

My Unexpected Korean Ginseng Discovery

Now onto something I didn’t expect to love: ginseng. Yes, yes, I know what it’s famous for… but get your head out of the gutter, because I didn’t get it for that reason! 😂 (But if you do, no judgment here.)

I picked it up because it’s a powerhouse antioxidant. Coming from a family with hereditary diabetes, I’m always looking for ways to help manage my blood sugar. Ginseng, along with apple cider vinegar and ginger water, is part of my preventative lineup.

What really surprised me? The boost in brain function. I felt it the first time I took it—clear-headed, focused, alert. But here's a warning: don’t take it before bed. The first time I did, I was WIDE awake. Lesson learned.

I retested this theory while on holiday. After a night of broken sleepand travel, I took my usual morning dose—and within 20 minutes, I was up, alert, and ready to go... without coffee.

Mushroom Coffee (That Doesn’t Give You the Jitters!)

Speaking of coffee—if you’re trying to cut down, LYL has an amazing mushroom coffee. I know I’ve said I’m giving up coffee... and I tried, I really did. But it’s my weakness. So I’m calling it limiting, not quitting. (Also, let’s not count the two cups I had on Eid, okay? It was Eid—it’s allowed!)

The mushroom coffee is honestly a game-changer. It doesn’t give me the jitters like regular coffee does, and it's a great swap if you’re looking to cut back without feeling like you're missing out.

I will be updating this post once I’ve had a chance to try the new products mentioned. Until then, Happy LYL (Love Yourself Long) Journey to you all!
