Ariana Grande's Wicked Movie Review

After what feels like forever, the Wicked movie has finally made its way from Broadway to the big screen—and trust me, it does not disappoint!

From the very first frame, Wicked pulls you into a world full of magic, wonder, and, of course, unforgettable music. The film dives deeper into the lives of the witches of Oz—Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch, and Glinda, the ever-charming Good Witch. Think a mix of Hogwarts, Elle Woods, and Mean Girls, with a whole lot of magic sprinkled in.

Jon M. Chu, the director behind Crazy Rich Asians, brings his signature visual flair to the film, and wow, it’s a total feast for the eyes. He somehow makes Oz feel both fantastical and grounded. The CGI is jaw-dropping—especially during the flying scenes, the magical spells, and the sweeping landscapes of Oz. From the sparkling Emerald City to the eerie, foreboding Wicked Witch’s lair, every shot feels like a visual masterpiece. The flying monkeys? Terrifyingly real. The poppy fields? Absolutely mesmerising. And those emerald greens—talk about magic. And the emerald train to Oz! The world of Wicked is both familiar and fresh at the same time, and you’ll find yourself wanting to stick around Oz just a little longer.

But it's not just about the visuals. Wicked has everything you want in a musical: spectacular set pieces, heart, humor, and of course, those iconic songs. It’s a celebration of friendship, identity, and challenging the norms, all wrapped up in a visually stunning package.

If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favour and let the magic of Oz sweep you off your feet. Whether you’ve been a fan of Wicked for years or this is your first trip to Oz, this movie will leave you spellbound.

The best part of it all, it ended with a ‘to be continued' so guess who’s going back to Oz next November? 🥰
