A Sweet Escape After Versace: Comptoir Bakery, Bermondsey London

After soaking up the glamour and drama of the Gianni Versace retrospective, I obviously needed to refuel—and let’s be honest, any excuse to try a new bakery is a yes from me. If you know me, you know I’m a sweets-over-savory girl through and through. Hot meals? Never. Give me sugar, pastries, and a flaky croissant any day, and I’m golden.
So, after a rare day out (I’ve basically been an introvert hermit this summer), I made it my mission to find somewhere cute nearby—and fate delivered. Just a short walk from the London Bridge arches, across from the Fashion & Textile Museum, I stumbled on Comptoir Bakery. And wow this was a true hidden gem.
🎥 You can catch the full spread on my TikTok here.
Disclaimer (because we need one):
No, I didn’t eat all of this in one go—although trust me, I wanted to. I’m taste-testing for you, okay? So this is technically your fault. And yes, justifying dessert runs is part of my full-time blogger job description (among other things lol).
What I Ordered:
Raspberry & White Chocolate Cookie – £4.90
Triple Chocolate Crookie – £5.50
Strawberry Brionut – £6.60
Hummus & Roasted Veg Focaccia – £6
Total: £23
🍪 Raspberry & White Chocolate Cookie
This cookie was massive—and when I say massive, I mean it could double as a pillow. Gooey, rich, and loaded with creamy white chocolate and real raspberries. Not the fake-flavour kind either—actual, tangy-sweet berries with all those little crunchy seeds I love. I’ve still got a piece left, and yes, I will be having it with my morning coffee (even though I’ve said I’m quitting coffee for the 100th time).
🍫 Triple Chocolate Crookie
A crookie = croissant + cookie. I know. I was skeptical too… but it was hands down the best thing I tried. Imagine all those buttery croissant layers hugging a soft, melt-in-your-mouth triple chocolatecookie. Heaven. If I had to crown one thing the winner—it’s this.
🍓 Strawberry Brionut
I picked this one up for my mum—she and my aunts are obsessed with this kind of thing. The brionut (a brioche-doughnut hybrid) was pillow-soft, filled with thick cream, and topped with the juiciest strawberries. Again, the fruit quality impressed me. Super fresh, super flavorful.
🥖 Hummus & Roasted Veg Focaccia
Okay, full honesty… this one wasn’t for me. I didn’t read the filling properly (classic), and the sweet tang of the hummus just didn’t hit for my taste buds. BUT my uncle took it to work the next day and lovedit, so clearly this is just a me problem. The bread itself? 10/10. You can hear all about my focaccia obsession in this post here.
✨ The Bakery Behind the Magic: Comptoir’s Story
What started as a small market stall in Borough Market has blossomed into one of London’s most charming bakery brands. Founded by Sebastien Wind, a master pastry chef who trained under legends like Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White (yes, really), Comptoir Bakery is all about bringing the magic of French baking to London—with a fresh, local twist.
Sebastien’s vision was simple but powerful: to blend the time-honoured traditions of French pâtisserie with the high-quality, seasonal ingredients found right here in the UK. That vision has grown into several locations across London Bridge, including a café, a bakery school, and stalls that continue to pop up in foodie hot spots around the city.
But what really sets Comptoir apart is the craftsmanship and carebehind every bake. From rich chocolate crookies to flakey focaccia, everything is handmade daily, using responsibly sourced ingredients. And if you’re looking to get hands-on? They offer baking workshops and classes led by Sebastien himself, so you can learn the secrets behind that perfect croissant swirl or glossy tart glaze.
It’s not just a bakery—it’s a little slice of Paris, served with a London attitude. And if you ask me, that’s a combo worth coming back for.
🥐 Final Thoughts
Whether you’re a croissant loyalist or a hybrid-loving dessert adventurer, Comptoir Bakery is 100% worth a visit. I’ll definitely be back when I head to the Fashion & Textile Museum later this year for the Costume Couture: Sixty Years of Cosprop exhibit. Who says you can’t pair couture with cookies?
Happy eating! x
